Latest Updates from Our Project:

The Book Is On Its Way
about 2 years ago – Sat, Apr 09, 2022 at 09:58:47 PM

Good time of day everyone, it's Jay — and I've been swamped! We had a couple printing issues (thanks to a sudden shift in the global supply chain) and a couple shipping issues (thanks to some miscommunications around warehouses) but today is the day! I get to show off this gorgeous book, and I'll press the button sending out all 800+ orders from our warehouse to your homes.

Photos Of Our Haunt

I took these on my backyard during a misty spring morning, the perfect time to wander around and feel like there are ghosts in the air. The paper is a thin but sturdy, and the art is beautiful on the pages. Ruby is a very medium-first graphic designer, and she has a special talent for the physical sense of the page. Habil's inks fit perfectly with Rae's words. It turned out really cool!

Shipping Out Across The World

In total we're sending out around 882 packages, across a dozen different countries. You'll be getting an email soon (either today or Monday, based on when our warehouse starts processing these shipments) with tracking information and ETAs. The only exception to that is if you backed at the Doll tier — I'm going to be shipping those out myself, so they'll send out early next week and when they do I'll forward you the tracking email.

Odds & Ends

If you bought a copy of Once More Into The Void, that will not be included in your order as production on those books hasn't yet finished. I'll be setting aside your orders and we'll get them fulfilled later once that Kickstarter is all set.

If you bought a PDF copy of any game (besides Once More Into The Void, which isn't done yet) I'll be fulfilling those either today or Monday. For all Possum Creek projects, I'll send out an email containing links to downloads. I'll talk to Rae to figure out the best way to fulfill Balikbayan, but we'll probably send out Itch.io download codes early next week.

We will also be switching out website away from Preorders and towards actual orders. This means if you have any friends interested in Our Haunt, please point them towards the Possum Creek Games website.

Goodbye

Barring future excitement, this is probably the last update to Our Haunt. Rae is really grateful for all your support, and I'm so honored that his first printed game gets to be with Possum Creek.

Our Haunt is one of the first TTRPGs Possum Creek has published that wasn't written in-house, and I'm so grateful Rae agreed to be part of our trial run. We learned a lot from the process and we're really looking forward to bringing that energy into other games and other projects in the future. I'm especially grateful that one of our first games is with Rae Nedjadi, a luminary of tabletop games.

Rae is a marvelous game designer — a genuinely one of a kind talent who has proven himself over and over again across the board. He moves between genres and design philosophies with ease, and his creative work is a constant challenge to the rest of the industry to just try and keep up. Rae is also one of my best friends — I cannot imagine being anywhere without him. He is creative and impassioned, caring and brave, witty and full of life. I firmly believe Rae Nedjadi is the future of tabletop role-playing.

I want to leave us on these words from Rae.

It is my dearest wish that the ghosts you meet, the rooms you discover, and the memories you craft are full of every imaginable color and feeling.

May this whispering mansion hold your secrets, may its secret doors lead you to where you must go, may the stories you tell live on and on and on.

Thank you for believing in Our Haunt, may this game be a comfort to you in the ways it has been a comfort to me.

Take care, and we'll see you around.

February Update — The PDF is here!
about 2 years ago – Fri, Feb 25, 2022 at 09:14:57 PM

Hey everyone, Jay here.

In the last days of February, as heavy snow falls all around us and the air is thick with the mysteries of winter, we're so thrilled to get to release the 2nd edition of Our Haunt by Rae Nedjadi of Sword Queen Games, available now on Itch.io, DriveThruRPG and our own website! The full PDF is 160 pages (or 80 spreads), with art by the outstanding Habil Firdaus and layout by Ruby Lavin.

The first pages of the Cat playbook
The first pages of the Study Room

You will be getting a couple emails momentarily — one that contains an Itch.io download link, and another one granting DriveThruRPG access. You can claim them in either or both places (be sure to leave a review and/or a rating!), based on your preference.

This means a bunch of exciting stuff, which I'll go over below.

Q&A with Rae Nedjadi today

Tonight at 9pm EST (10am 2/26 PhST) we will be hosting a question & answer session with the game designer and creative force behind Our Haunt, Rae Nedjadi, on the Possum Creek Campsite discord. We'll be talking about Our Haunt, Rae's work in the next generation of indie TTRPGs, how his personal experiences as a queer trans Filipino impact his creative work and perspective, and what he has in store for the future. Click here to RSVP and join the server.

We're also going to be helping people organize digital games of Our Haunt on the server over the next few weeks, so if you want to be part of an exciting community focused on games like this, be sure to come visit the Campsite!

Physical Release

With the release of the PDF, that means the print run order will be placed next week. We already have all the merchandise printed and gathered, and once the books reach our warehouse in Utah we'll be ready to send out copies. We're shipping out 970 copies of Our Haunt for this Kickstarter, which is an awesome level of demand and we're excited for everyone to get their books!

You're going to get an email from Backerkit about locking in your order and address — look everything over and make sure the information is all correct — once it's Monday you won't be able to change your order.

Be Warned: You might have a mysterious-looking charge on your card in the next couple of days. Backerkit, for whatever reason, doesn't clearly label the charges it places. Please check with us first before disputing the charge, as it creates a huge headache for us every time someone disputes their card charge!

Most of you are probably aware Possum Creek Games is gearing up to launch its next project on Indiegogo at the end of March. This shouldn't conflict with the fulfillment work for Our Haunt, as the team fulfilling this Kickstarter won't be conflicting with the team launching this project. I just wanted to keep everyone updated about timing and plans — and that we're giving out free pins to everyone who backs in the first 48 hours, and if Our Haunt is your jam you're probably really going to love Yazeba's Bed & Breakfast.

The Team On Social Media

This book wouldn't be possible without its outstanding team — so go find everyone on social media and give them a follow! We're all really passionate about making weird beautiful games like this a reality.

See You Soon!

The next update to this Kickstarter will be in March when we ship all these books out. It's been an awesome ride, and the team has been so rock solid. Rae is an amazing designer, and it's been a huge honor to get to help get his creative vision into bookstores and available to a larger audience. It's also a personal joy — Rae is one of my dearest friends and was a huge part of helping my own work make it to print in the past.

Catch you all later!

January Updates (delays!)
about 2 years ago – Mon, Jan 24, 2022 at 01:36:57 PM

Hey folks,

Jay here! It's cold right now, both outside and inside. Things are freezing up and everyone I know is huddling together for warmth.

I only have one update for Our Haunt — shipping is going to take a bit longer than anticipated, and we probably won't be shipping until late February / early March. Our graphic designer and my business partner is currently sick with a flare-up, and everyone on the team has been dealing with COVID scares and mental health crises. I know you're all patient (and the turnaround is still faster than most Kickstarters) but I'm still grateful for your understanding and compassion in these trying times.

I've talked in previous Kickstarters about how our team is against crunch, and that's still true here. We'll get the project in the world once it's ready, but I want to look out for the health of my team first.

To satiate your hunger however, here's a couple more layout designs (none of these are final)

Screw Kickstarter

Also, if you haven't heard the news already — this is going to be our last project on Kickstarter. Our next big project, Yazeba's Bed & Breakfast, is going to be on Indiegogo. We talk more about the change online, and you can read this Dicebreaker article about the decision and what we have to say about it.

I know a lot of you are used to Kickstarter, but I hope you join us while we make this transition.

Take care folks!

December Updates (+an important announcement)
over 2 years ago – Thu, Dec 30, 2021 at 08:28:28 AM

Hey folks, Jay here!

It's almost the end of 2021 and everything is proceeding mostly on schedule. I'll talk more about the schedule and show off previews of the layout after our announcement!

Announcement Time!

We are so excited to announce that the author of Our Haunt is changing his name to Rae Nedjadi. We're so proud of him and so excited to celebrate his new name with him. I'm not sure I can change the Kickstarter's header (I'll be reaching out to customer support after the holidays to see what I can do) but you can expect a book cover with a new name on it.

As I've mentioned before, Rae is not only an incredible TTRPG designer but a dear personal friend. We're excited to support him on this next leg of his journey, and for what his future contains. It's also his birthday! Go wish him a happy birthday and be sure to follow him on Twitter

Our Haunt Progress

Right now, we are in the midst of layout and formatting. It's a small book, and we gave ourselves more time than strictly necessary to get it done, but a part of that is for situations like this. Unfortunately, Ruby isn't feeling well right now. She's going to keep making headway on the layout, but between her health and the holiday season, it might take slightly more time than previously anticipated. We'll keep you updated, as right now any delays are just eating into our set-aside time.

She did take a moment and create this GIF to give a sense of what the final project is going to look like! There's more than just this — art and kerning and all the fine detail finessing work that goes into making the book a book. But it's awesome to see the first passes and how it all starts to come together.

And that's December! Don't forget to fill out your surveys (there's only 78 of you who haven't yet) and if you have a friend who wants to get in on the post-Kickstarter preorder action, please send them towards this link

Seeya in the new year!

Jay
