Latest Updates from Our Project:

November Updates
over 2 years ago – Thu, Nov 25, 2021 at 10:53:45 AM

Hey folks! Jay here.

The editing stage for Our Haunt has completed and Jammi has implemented all of the edits. Hooray! The next step is to move to layout, as Ruby will spend the next month or so laying out the text and formatting the book. We still don't have a direct ETA for shipping, as that will depend heavily on manufacturing speed during a global supply crisis.

Meanwhile, the Backerkit page is all set up for shipping surveys. Over the next few days you're going to get an email with a form that will allow you to give us your shipping address, pay for shipping, and toss in any add-ons you want to get. We'll be sending out a "Smoke Test" of around 5% of backers today, with a full launch later this week.

Please fill it out!

I don't want to have to hound people for their shipping addresses, and the later you get us your address, the harder it will be for us to fulfill your order in a timely manner.

That's all for now! This was a short update just keeping everyone informed while we move to the next phase of production.

As a treat, here's one of the illustrations from the book, by the incredible Habil Firdaus:

Take care!

We did it!
over 2 years ago – Thu, Nov 04, 2021 at 05:27:55 PM

Hi everyone, Jay here.

Wow, thank you all so much! Our Haunt has been a huge success (the second-largest Kickstarter Possum Creek has ever been involved in), and it's thanks to all of you. Our Haunt has been a project in helping lift up marginalized creators and creating sustainable and accessible approaches to Kickstarter fulfillment, and we're excited that it's accomplished all of its goals so thoroughly.

A few weeks from now, you'll get a survey from Backerkit collecting your mailing info and charging you for shipping. At that survey, you can also choose add-ons and upgrade your pledge.

If you missed the Kickstarter, you can still preorder Our Haunt on Backerkit here

Support The Team

Our Haunt has only been possible thanks to a great team. Be sure to check out everyone on the team and support their future projects as well!

Jamila Nedjadi is an indie TTRPG designer from the Philippines and the visionary behind Sword Queen Games. Jamila's work is sprawling and magical, capturing the variety of human experiences with a careful eye and a poignant poetry. He is known for the critically-acclaimed Balikbayan: Returning Home, the recently-funded Once More Into The Void, the soft and charming Cozy Town, and the passionate and explosive Apocalypse Keys, coming soon to Evil Hat Productions. You can find Jamila on Twitter, his Website, and his Patreon.

Dominique Dickey is a writer, editor, and cultural consultant working in RPGs and fiction. In addition to creating TRIAL, a narrative courtroom tabletop role-playing game about race in the criminal justice system, and co-creating Tomorrow on Revelation III, a tabletop role-playing game about surviving and building community on a hyper-capitalist space station, Dominique has also written for Thirsty Sword Lesbians, Sea of Legends, and Monte Cook Games. You can find Dominque on Twitter and on their Website.

Habil Firdaus is an artist and illustrator based in Malaysia. While this is his first Kickstarter involvement, he has previously worked on comic books, picture books, and art installations throughout Malaysia. His work is delicate and forceful, full of caring lines and inky depths — perfect for the look and feel of Our Haunt. You can find Habil on Instagram.

Ruby Lavin is the artistic director of Possum Creek Games and the artistic mind behind everything Possum Creek Games does, including Wanderhome, Sleepaway, Wickedness, and more — along with layout design for other successful Kickstarter-funded projects like Strong Female Protagonist and Field Guide to Memory. She likes texture, critical theory, fantasy, and weird plants. You can find Ruby on Twitter and on the Possum Creek Games Patreon.

Jay Dragon is the editorial director of Possum Creek Games, and author of Wanderhome and Sleepaway (among others). This is Jay's sixth Kickstarter project involvement, working on games about community, liminality, trauma, and the magic behind the mundane. Jay also has a weird thing for Excel spreadsheets, which makes Jay oddly well-suited for the whole project manager thing. You can find Jay on Twitter and support Possum Creek Games at their Website and on their Patreon.

What's Next

As I mentioned in a previous update, the timeline for the next few months is pretty fast. Dominique is editing the game and will have the finished edits done in a couple weeks. Once that's done and we have all the art assets, Ruby will go in and lay the whole book out before we send it to the printer. At that point, we'll also release the new edition PDF. Once that's all done, it'll go out into the world and the project will be done!

We'll keep you updated as the project continues, and we're continuously grateful for all of your support. Take care for now!

Happy Halloween! Last Merch and more
over 2 years ago – Mon, Nov 01, 2021 at 07:11:32 PM

Hi everyone,

From everyone at Possum Creek Games and Sword Queen Games, happy halloween!

This is the last 48 hours of the Kickstarter (well, 36 now, but who's counting) and we'd love all hands on deck to help spread the word. Once the Kickstarter wraps up, we're gonna shift gears into paying the team, finishing the book edits, and releasing the game. Our current timeline suggests that we might be hitting "print" as soon as December 1st — so you'll probably get the books sometime shortly after Christmas. I'll keep you updated!

Here's a couple Kickstarters you should check out:

Upriver, Downriver

Upriver, Downriver is a beautiful game inspired by Wanderhome, Princess Mononoke, and The Hobbit all about traveling in search of the Source of the Great River. I am incredibly hyped for it and I think you will all REALLY love it. The team behind it includes Jonathan Sims and Max Briar, and I'm super hyped for its release.

Suburban Consumption of the Monstrous

Perfect for the halloween spirit, Suburban Consumption of the Monstrous is a series of play-at-home dinner table games all about monstrosity, cannibalism, and horror.  Every single game here looks incredibly kickass, and you know anything Grubby (our art director and layout designer) touches is gonna look beautiful. Go pitch in and help it out.

Renew The Orpheum

Okay, this one is personal for me. The Orpheum is my local movie theater, it's a classic old theater that's served as an important part of my town's community for decades. Please pitch in to help it survive, if you're able. It would mean a lot to me.

Shirt Designs

We're excited to unveil all 6 t-shirt designs for Our Haunt! Each one depicts a different playbook, all by Habil Firdaus. All of them are glow-in-the-dark, with white/blue ink on black fabric.

The Betrayed
The Cat
The Doll
The Faceless
The Loved
The Returned

And with that, have a happy halloween!

9 Days Left!
over 2 years ago – Sat, Oct 23, 2021 at 10:36:05 PM

Hi everyone,

Thank you all for the wonderful support. We're so proud of how the Kickstarter is doing and where it will go from here.

I want to give a couple updates on timelines (everything's going according to plan!) and let you all know of a panel coming up in just a few hours where both Jammi and Jay (along with Kristin Devine and Connie Chang) will be talking about emotions in games (including Our Haunt and Wanderhome):

The Heart of Games: Designing, embodying, and celebrating emotions in TTRPGs

If you missed it, don't worry! It's being recorded and will be put up on Youtube after the con.

Also, timelines are going well. The book is set to finish editing early-mid November, and from there we'll be jumping into layout and design.

IN THE MEANTIME, we'll continue to run ads and promote Our Haunt until the Kickstarter ends. See you around!

Podcasts And A Little Taste Of The Game
over 2 years ago – Sun, Oct 17, 2021 at 08:21:38 PM

Hey folks, Jay here!

I wanted to share a couple of exciting things tonight. First off, if you want to learn more about Our Haunt, Jammi has done a couple podcasts that I really adore:

Redesigning Our Haunt & Publishing Indie TTRPGs with Jamila R. Nedjadi — Podcast Interview With Jamila Nedjadi on Roll Play Grow

Our Haunt with Jamila Nedjadi — Table Top Crowd

Also, I wanted to share a couple illustrations (as always by the astounding Habil) of some of the setting elements of Our Haunt. These Haunts add so much to the game in fascinating and subtle ways. In both interviews, Jammi talks about how these Haunts inform the game and how it approaches Belonging Outside Belonging differently than you might expect from other games.

The Basement
The Parlor
The Loved

That's all for now, folks! I hope you enjoy — and be sure to spread the word.
